…is exactly what you think it would be like. What a thrill. I just got back from Santa Barbara where Gary and I sang harmonies on Nov. 4, 2023 for the final show of Kenny’s “This Is It” Tour. We performed “Why Not,” a song Gary and I wrote with Kenny for our trio Blue Sky Riders and on this particular night, Kenny sang lead and featured the great Jake Shimabukuro on ukulele.
After “Why Not,” I walked downstage and took my place next to Kenny to sing the duet “Whenever I Call You Friend.” It was amazing looking out at that sold out crowd, singing a classic like that with a pop icon who also happens to be a dear friend. Kenny rocked that show. As he prefaced in the beginning: “I want this show to be about how we all feel our connection tonight.” And it certainly was. He was saying goodbye after 40 years on the road and we all felt the power of the legacy he so generously left us.

It was such a joy swapping songs with Gary Burr (“What Mattered Most”) and Mike Reid (“I Can’t Make You Love Me”) on Saturday, Nov. 18th at The Bluebird Cafe in Nashville. We had lots of laughs and played songs we’ve written for other artists plus debuted some brand spanking new ones. You never know what you’re gonna get at one of our shows, but one thing you do know is that it’s gonna be a good time.
